MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD
It is an honor to begin my term as the Jay and
Cynthia Ihlenfeld Head of the Charles D. Davidson
School of Chemical Engineering during one of the
most exciting times for our School.
This fall we continue to experience record
enrollment numbers with 625 undergraduates,
32 Professional Master's students and 146 PhD
students. Our School's legacy of excellence
continues as we announce extraordinary
Because of the generosity of Charles Davidson
(BSChE '72, OChE 2005, DEA 2005), our School is
now the Charles D. Davidson School of Chemical
Engineering. This is a monumental gift to the School,
enabling us to strengthen our programs and offer
the best opportunities to our students, faculty and staff. You can read more about the Davidson's generosity
on page 4.
We are proud to announce the launch of the Purdue ChE Pipeline Center. The Center's vision is to help
women in Chemical Engineering shape and reach their full potential. Page 15 gives more details on how
the Center will collaborate with professional, academic and industrial partners to implement programs that
enable women in chemical engineering to be successful in their careers, pursue leadership roles and make a
difference in their profession.
The Purdue AIChE Chapter was selected by AIChE as an Outstanding Student Chapter for the 2015-16 school
year. This is a well-deserved recognition of our student officers, faculty advisors and members who put
considerable, sustained effort into organizing meaningful activities for our students.
I believe every beginning is an opportunity to reassess the current status and determine future directions. As
such, I plan to fully evaluate our strengths and challenges. I already know we are in a great position to build
on existing strengths, catalyze current trends, and build a winning strategy to successfully navigate what the
chemical engineering field has to offer.
I invite you to join in our journey!
